Conscious parenting, having compassion for ourselves and others, and being in this moment – EDEM ep. 28 with Sheryl Stoller

Wishing you a day of presence with all the family time, gathering, food and fun

Wishing you a day of presence with all the family time, gathering, food and fun

Happy Thanksgiving. My wish for this thanksgiving is presence, to accept myself and others fully, and really enjoy the food, the gathering, family time, and fun. I've gone through too many special holidays without really being there. Lost in expectations instead of what is, thoughts over food not being prepared quite right or being late or not wearing or saying the right thing, or  worrying about the socializing aspect or my children's behavior instead of just being present and actually connecting. When we're present, we can be full of love, kindness, and gratefulness.…continue reading →

Expecting your second child? 18 tips for staying present and positive so you can appreciate more

One nice thing about having your second child is that you trust yourself more.  You did it once, you can do it again. You still worry about whether or not you can handle it all. But if you are worrying, then you can't be calm and positive and trust yourself. Knowing that our capacity to love and give only grows when we have another child helps with this worry. The more we give, the more we get back. And we do get so much back from our children. The love and joy we get back from our…continue reading →

This is an EveryDayReflection on getting through stressful moments of parenting. When we are feeling less stress, we can appreciate and enjoy more moments with our children. Whenever my children are feeling big emotions and melting down,  one of the first things I try to say is, “calm down and take a deep breath.” And now when I'm starting to feel stressed and overwhelmed, “take a deep breath, Mommy” is the first thing my daughter says to me.  Hearing her say this may  to me really helps. Even though it may not be the thing I want to…continue reading →

Dropping the Pacifier with extra patience

Dropping the Pacifier with extra patience

Ahh the pacifier. For anyone who has been on the floor searching for one the middle of night or has popped one in at a restaurant to immediately calm your crying  baby. You know the love-hate relationship that exists with the binky. The Pacifier is so wonderful in the early months. It really does calm babies in those first few months. A calmer baby makes us as parents more calm, and therefore a better environment for everyone. It helped Calvin, who was a colicky baby. And it helped Lucy and Paige self-soothe as…continue reading →

Sharing life recipes for making EveryDay moments more meaningful for the EveryMom.

Life as a mom is full. We aren't just moms, we're much more like homemakers, nurturers, organizers, wives, colleagues, sisters, and daughters. In my first week as a mom, I reflected that being a mom is absolutely the most challenging yet joyful thing I've ever done. That still holds true today, four years…continue reading →

You can only find happiness inside – Children can help bring it out

You can only find happiness inside – Children can help bring it out

My 7-month old Paige looks up at the trees and smiles. She happily sits and watches her brother and sister run around the yard or dance or build blocks. When she giggles her whole body feels it and I can't help but smile too. My children continually inspire me to feel more, and to feel better. Children feel so strongly. Their joy is so immense that it's contagious. Their feelings of fear, sadness, and frustration are strong too. But they let us know how they are feeling as best they can and then…continue reading →

You hear a lot about how hard it is to be a mom. But nobody ever tells you how hard it is to be a wife after you become a mom. So much of your attention, time, naturally goes to your children. Sometimes it's a challenge to give your partner the energy they need. I have to be the person I want to connect with and that requires action everyday. I have to put positive energy into the things that are most important and that includes the relationship with my husband. When we…continue reading →
Change your Attitude – You may see everything in front of you differently

Change your Attitude – You may see everything in front of you differently

I’ve had two experiences recently where my three-year old Calvin helped me see the situation differently. Both were times when he was frustrating me beyond belief. Sometimes it's in our toughest, most challenging moments that we learn our greatest lessons. And sometimes those lessons come from our children. It was one of those early-summer nights without humidity or bugs and just the right breeze that we managed to have dinner outside. It was lovely. These types of nights are more rare after children so you really enjoy them when they do happen. After…continue reading →

From the earliest stages of pregnancy with Calvin almost four years ago to life now with three beautiful children, I am truly amazed every day. And then to see the way in which every day each of them has grown bigger, brighter, and more uniquely into their own individual self every day. Everyday is a new beginning and new challenge and moment-to-moment can be the highest of high and lowest of low. Just when you think you…continue reading →
